Seductively heady aromas of rose petals, dried cranberry and bright crunchy red cherries. Dried thyme, roasted coffee bean, and just a faint wisp of candle smoke gradually reveal themselves. The palate envelops the senses with a plush layer of powdery fine tannin, gently guiding towards a core of dark plum and chocolate dipped cherries. A spark of bright acidity illuminates the mid palate, carrying through to a finish that lingers long past the last sip.
THE INSPIRATION
BEHIND THE NAME
In late 2004 during a trek to a restaurant nestled high
above the picturesque town of Queenstown.
We were headed there for some breath- taking scenery, good food and of course some great Central Otago Pinot Noir. What was supposed to be a relaxing stroll quickly became quite an ordeal with an unplanned deviation from the not so well-defined walking track. This journey became the inspiration for the naming of Nanny Goat Vineyard. The gentle terrain quickly transformed, leaving all concerned to navigate some rather perilous ground.
The name “Nanny Goat Vineyard” stuck. It seemed to be a fair reflection of our determination to succeed, adapt and thrive in the rugged and often extreme climates of Central Otago; much like the nimble and sure footed wild goats of the region have done before us. From our inception and the inaugural release of our Pinot Noir in 2005, Nanny Goat Vineyard has strived to produce wines with elegance, concentration and balance whilst allowing each individual parcel of fruit to tell its unique story.

Intense aromas of lemon, lime, and grapefruit with green, crunchy apple and hints of chamomile. The palate is lively and fresh, citrus, apple, and subtle nectarine flavours with zingy acidity and a chalky mineral note on the long, lingering finish.
It has been said that the essence of a place can be found in a glass of wine. This is true of the Prophet’s Rock range. But in our wines there is an essence of these travels too, a sensorial souvenir of Paul’s journey into wine. Originally from New Zealand, winemaker Paul Pujol has always been drawn to the Pinot Noirs and aromatic whites of France. He joined Prophet’s Rock after a six-year around the world odyssey chasing these varietals, travels palpable in the wines he makes today. His traditional aesthetic — respectful, patient, vineyard-focused — resonates in our wines, and frees them to express the unique tenor of our sites. His winemaking is a sensitive, site-driven, and empathic approach which aims to express the beauty of the place rather than pronounced winemaking characters. Paul got his start working a vintage at Marlborough’s Seresin Estate. He then headed for France, where he took in three more consecutive vintages: in the Languedoc, for Henri Bourgeois in Chavignol (Sancerre) and for the prestigious Maison Kuentz-Bas in Alsace. (Yes, that’s four vintages in one year). Maison Kuentz-Bas offered him the head winemaking position, and he became the first non-family winemaker at Kuentz-Bas since the house was founded in 1795, and possibly the first-ever permanent foreign winemaker in Alsace. Paul stayed at Kuentz-Bas for three years, producing wine from their six Grand Cru vineyards and other holdings. Subsequently, Paul spent several years in Oregon at boutique organic producer Lemelson Vineyards. He returned to Oregon in 2006 to assist Cheryl Francis and Sam Tannahill at pioneering Oregon producer Rex Hill, producing a guest cuvée of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Perhaps the highlight of his round-the-world winemaking experiences was being invited to work the 2009 vintage in Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy.

Concentrated and elegant with red and dark fruit, spectacular baking spices combined with smoky oak and the signature integrated tannin structure, this seamless wine with its velvety texture will leave you wanting more.
The foundation of this wine is our focus on delivering low-yielding concentrated fruit that expresses our vineyard. In the winery, we employ traditional old world techniques; the grapes are handled gently and the wines are fermented using only the indigenous yeast from the vineyard.
The wines are aged in barrel for 15-18 months before being bottled unfiltered, and are cellared before release. Since the first release in 2005, the Prophet’s Rock Pinot Noir has consistently been one of the best-reviewed Pinot Noirs in New Zealand.
Cellaring will reward collectors over the next 10+ years from vintage.

Shaky Bridge Pioneer Series Pinot Noir 2019
Description
The Shaky Bridge Pioneer Series 2019 Pinot Noir is beautifully ripe and inviting on the nose showing dark cherry, plum, toasted hazelnut and subtle game characters. The palate is concentrated and silky, and delivers excellent fruit richness and intensity, wonderfully framed by polished tannins.
The first thing that gets you is the color; dark, inky, opaque. The wine sits heavy in the glass, you know there’s an experience about to happen. The aromas are full of cocoa, blackberry, blueberry and smoky, vanilla laden oak. The weight on the tongue is impressive; the ripe fruit engulfs your palate with a richness you’d expect from a much more expensive wine. The finish is seductive; long; perfectly complete.
Shaky Bridge Wines is located in the stunningly beautiful Alexandra Basin of Central Otago, New Zealand. The source vineyards are situated below the 45th Parallel in the southern most wine growing region on the globe. The location is ideally suited to the creation of the aromatic varieties of white wine, alongside Pinot Noir which is our primary variety.
Sourcing fruit from 6 distinct blocks that vary in age from 10 – 30+ years, Shaky Bridge Wines owns one of the oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in Central Otago. The various locations, soil types and clones used within each block provide our winemaker, Dave Grant, with a virtual painters pallete of flavours to create multi dimensional wines of exceptional quality, depth and satisfaction.
Food Pairing: Delicious with a Sunday Roast! Pair with duck, goose & other game birds.
