Poggerino Chianti Classico 2019 Italy

$43.95

Dark cherry and spice with cedar and vanille from the French oak ageing. Notes of blackberries, leather, cherries and red currant on the nose with a touch of liquorice. Persistent tannins.

Piero has crafted another beauty in 2019. This wine, that he calls his ‘business card’, is one of the most reliably delicious and complex wines you will find for under £20. Bursting with ripe cherry fruit, with that characteristic cherry skin ‘snap’, but with depth and savour, this is classic Sangiovese from a true master. Fresh with amazing acidity, match this to a fine ragú or simply pull the cork, pour a glass and let yourself bathe in all that Tuscan sun.

“Poggerino” is a small organic farm located in the central area of the Chianti Classico. There are 43 hectares of vineyards, olive groves, woods, some ancient farmhouses and a church dating back to the 12th century.

The company is one of the farms of a large property that belonged to Prince Ginori Conti, descendant of one of the oldest families in Florence. Floriana Ginori Conti, inherited the farm from her father in the 70s, began in 1980 with her husband Fabrizio Lanza, to produce Chianti Classico with the “Poggerino” label.

In 1999 she donated the property to her two children, Piero and Benedetta Lanza who have managed the company since 1988.

Alongside the production of wine and oil, the Fattoria Poggerino is also an agritourism. In fact, some ancient farmhouses are part of the company; they are the typical Chianti rural buildings unique in the world for harmony of shapes and integration with the landscape. The holiday in Poggerino is a relaxing holiday recommended for all those who wish to spend a few days away from the noise of the city, breathe the romantic atmosphere of these places and wake up in the morning with the singing of birds.

Poggerino Chianti Classico 2019

Poggerino wines are produced exclusively with grapes from these vineyards.

All stages of production, from the processing of the vineyard to the vinification and marketing are handled by the owners in the first person. We believe in the importance of an almost maniacal work in the vineyard, aimed at introducing healthy grapes to the cellar and at the maximum degree of ripeness.
